HeadsUp Newsletter - Vol 3.09: September 2006 |
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
This time last year, Hurricane Katrina swept the Southeast coast of the United States causing the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people from their homes, as well as significant infrastructure damage to many cities within the region. Most notably was New Orleans in Louisiana, which is still in the midst of a major reconstruction and restoration effort. While great strides have been made to help restore New Orleans back to its lively and vigorous nature, a great deal of reconstruction is still left to be done. With hope for a speedy recovery and in homage to the displaced residents of the City of New Orleans, we present in this month’s newsletter, a tribute to the great jazz-playing, Cajun-cooking City of New Orleans!
Our first article covers our impressive Headworks® Mahr® Bar Screen located at East Bank, New Orleans WWTP . After Hurricane Katrina hit, the East Bank Plant, in the heart of New Orleans was submerged in 20 feet of water. Today, the same Headworks® Mahr® Bar Screen at the plant is working virtually maintenance-free.
The New Orleans port plays a huge role in helping US exports, having exported over $36 billion in 2004. To honor New Orleans’ past contribution to US exports, the District Export Council is planning their next annual meeting in New Orleans. Thus, our next article is about the District Export Council. Lastly, we share interesting fun facts about wetlands, which are nature’s way of cleaning wastewater, and typically found in the Southeast portion of the United States.
Happy Reading!
Kind Regards,
Michele M. LaNoue
CEO/President |
