MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome our loyal Heads-Up readers!
Inspired by one of the best books I’ve ever read, Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, this edition of the Headworks® newsletter focuses on prisons and is dedicated to all of those men and women who have dug themselves out of the folly of their crimes and into a productive, peaceful life. For a short review about this most amazing book written by an escapee from one of Australia’s high security prisons who happens to be one of the most gifted writers living today, click here.
March saw the arrival of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a popular and successful tradition which plays host to 2.5 million visitors every year! Rodeo Houston began in 1932, but one year before its introduction, the Texas Prison Rodeo was launched in Huntsville. To read about these two Texas traditions, click here.
Recently I was fortunate to participate in judging the Business Plan Competition at the Texas State Prison, Hamilton Unit, organized by the Prison Entrepreneurship Program. This program teaches prisoners to put their entrepreneurship skills previously used in various criminal activities to better use. Of paroled prisoners who enrolled in the program since its conception in 2005, there is a 0% recidivism rate. Compare this to the national average of 60 to 70% in the normal prisoner population and the numbers speak for themselves! Catherine Rohr, the founder of this program and the energy behind it, has written an interesting article for our newsletter. Click here to find out more about this worthy new program. And see if you can spot me in the group photo with my new friends!
Whether used in a prison plant or outside in the “real world,” Headworks® screens continue to be the gold standard. Last month we brought you a case study highlighting the advantages and differences between the Perforator® Screen and the Mahr™ Bar Screen and due to demand, this month we are bringing you a case study comparing step screens and the Mahr™ Bar Screen. Team Headworks wishes all of you a very Spring-like April and hope you all stay out of trouble and on the correct side of the law!
Best regards,
Michele LaNoue
