Thirty-eight members of Headworks and their families joined our Senior Financial Administrator, Ms. Joy Arrington, in her quest to raise money for the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) charity. Sporting “Joy’s Victory Steppers” T-shirts, the gang participated in a 5K walk in mid-November. Of the many teams participating, without a doubt, Joy’s Victory Steppers was by far the loudest – from our voices to our matching team T-shirts.

Joy’s Victory Steppers were full of enthusiastic walkers of all ages, including the youngest member who was just 2-years old! Despite the overcast weather everyone on the team finished the 5 kilometers before the rain came. Due to some slightly misleading markers and a fair amount of distracting conversation, several members of the team walked an extra kilometer or two!

Thank you to all of our friends, families, and associates who walked with us and to all of you who made such gracious and generous financial contributions! With your support, Joy managed to raise a grand total of $3,500!

The whole Houston walk raised almost twice its original target, bringing in more than $60,000. Each year the total gets bigger and bigger, which is great news for this charity that works so hard to find a cure for this debilitating disease. Lupus is a disease which does not have the same amount of media hype surrounding it as, for example, breast cancer or Parkinson’s disease; it does not have a celebrity face, but it is there nonetheless and affects lives every day. This is why it is so important to support ALR on a community level.

This was the first year Joy and her team took part in the walk, but with such enthusiastic support we will be sure to take part next year! Thank you again to everyone who took part.
