MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome back to our Heads-Up, readers!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting with Jim Force of Siemens US Filter during the Water Environment Federation’s mid-year meetings in San Diego. During that discussion, we spoke about the historical ideological division between the disciplines of clean water and wastewater in our industry. Jim rightly pointed out that we all need to change our view – water is all part of a cycle: from clean to used to recycled to reusable. At each step, there is a bridge to the next and these diverse disciplines will simply have to be in communication with each other as part of a team for us to see effective progress in addressing the issues surrounding our future water needs. Excuse the pun, but clean and gray water people need to have one fluid relationship.
This issue is dedicated to World Water Day, an initiative established in 1993 by the United Nations, which you can read about in this newsletter. We outline the UN-Water challenges which are of particular interest to those of us in the water industry. For a clearer understanding of some of the critical factors compounding water depletion problems in the future, we also recommend watching the Academy Award-winning documentary feature, ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ regardless of your politics.
This month our case study highlights the Perforator Screen. During the 10 years that Headworks® has been delivering the best quality perforated plate screen in the industry, we have learned a lot. Perforated plate screens are an important weapon in our arsenal for fighting contaminates, but aren’t always right for every application. Read about how you can determine which type of screen best suits your needs below!
Have a great month,
