MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Michele M. LaNoue, Headworks President and CEO

Welcome HeadsUp Readers!

Headworks is an engineering company at heart, with some of the most creative and dedicated engineers in the industry calling us home.  Their ingenious minds inspire us to be the best at whatever we do, and they are a constant reminder that innovation is the foundation of our nation’s prosperity!

We dedicate this issue of HeadsUp in honor of all of our engineers at Headworks, our manufacturers representatives around the globe, and the engineers who choose excellence and long life over low quality - low price.  Our case study on the Edmonds WWTP in Washington State highlights the dedication and design ingenuity of our team in a uniquely challenging application.  We’ve interviewed Plant Manager Stephen Koho about this unique project. As you can see by the photo of Stephen jumping out of an airplane, he’s not averse to trying new things.

If you are technically inclined, or just curious about how strange gizmos work, the theories of Theo Jansen will fascinate you.  We’ve included an article and links to youtube.com sites showcasing his revolutionary use of artistry and engineering to create a unique form of mobility that requires a modicum of energy. The elegant creations he and his disciples have produced will amaze you.

In January of 2007 we featured the radio show produced by The University of Houston entitled “Engines of our Ingenuity”.  I just love this show.  Each morning or afternoon there’s something new and interesting to learn.  We highlight one of the programs about Houston’s famous Transco Tower and its lovely Water Wall, a skyscraper not afraid to stand alone in the middle of its green environment.

The first week of May brings us once again IFAT—the International Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Refuse, and Recycling, hosted every three years in Munich, Germany. The conference will focus on the future of environmental technology, and Headworks will be in attendance demonstrating its equipment including a working Mahr® Bar Screen. If you are attending, please be sure to stop by and visit us at our booth number A2 317!

Best regards,
Michele LaNoue
CEO
