Heads Up Current Issue

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello to all of our HeadsUp Readers!

Michele M. LaNoue, Headworks President and CEOHere we are in steamy July! While places like Washington DC may have broken their record for hot June days, and Houston leaves spring behind for our steamy summers, we watch the fans in South Africa in their winter jackets cheering on their favorite teams at the World Cup.

The USA team went home, as did many others so far. Perhaps they should have read our article on how to increase penalty shot success. We'll never know. But while they show us how great teammanship delivers and people from various cultures can compete with professional courtesy, we can all continue our summer reading. July's recommendation is How Enemies Become Friends, by Charles Kupchan. Mr. Kupchan is professor of international affairs at Georgetown University and a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. His book analyzes past successes and failures to identify the key elements necessary to orchestrate the right conditions for peacemaking.

Rather than focus on wastewater treatment this month, we thought it might interest you to read about how the Royal Caribbean cut their cruise ship, the Enchantment of the Seas, in half and put it back together all in two months' time. After you see the photos, try to imagine what stress the engineer who told everyone where to cut must have been feeling. Geez. And we think our jobs are challenging!

Headworks is proud to announce that once again it's on the Houston Business Journal's list of 10 Best Places to Work in Houston! This year we're number 4 and so excited to say that we're in a hiring mode. Interested in being a part of this award-winning team? Check out our career section and come help us make this an even better place to work!

Whether you're watching the World Cup or reading your favorite book (or preparing your application for a position at Headworks), we wish you a happy 4th of July, a terrific Canada Day, or just a plain old fashioned marvelous July! See you next month

Warm and sultry regards,

Michele LaNoue
CEO
